A distinct feature of the socialist countries was that they all offered regular annual scholarships for university education to a large number of young Sri Lankans.

Sinhala & Tamil New Year celebrations for children of ASLGSC members were held in the front lawn of ASLGSC Head Quarters on 25th April 2009 from 3:30pm onward. There were many games and competitions to participate. We saw all children are enthusiastically participating in all the events and also parents are enjoying equally well. More than 60 children and parents attended the event. The New Year celebrations were concluded with the prize giving around 6.30 pm. The credit for the very enjoyable event should go to the Social & Cultural Sub-committee and especially to the Vice President Mr. Lal Ranasinghe for his meticulous planning and untiring efforts for perfection. The photos in the album tell the story better.

At the conclusion of the celebrations the participants joined the End of the Month Family Get Together and Dinner. All were praising the well planned menu which had the nostalgic Russian touch. This month’s sponsors were Ven. Pallekande Rathanasara Thero and Mr. G. Karunapala.
