April 2010 Visitors Print

During last few days the ASLGSC had two visitors from overseas. The first one to arrive was Mr. Vladimir Kothzr who happened to be a very senior officer in the Foreign Students Section in the People’s Friendship University during the 70s.

Although he did not have a particularly close relationship with the Sri Lankan students like some others we used to know, Mr. Kothzr attentively listen to the students when they had problems. There were several occasions we  knew when he helped out SL students when they had encountered serious problems. In 2003, he took a particular interest to meet the SL delegation (ASLGSC) to the ‘Graduates Forum’ held in Moscow.

This time, he is here on a private visit to this country and it is his first time here. He happily accepted the invitation to the end of the month dinner hosted by Dr. Hector Weerasingha, Newton Karunaratna and Hemantha on 24th April.

He thoroughly enjoyed the evening, having met many of his old acquaintances. He admired our newly completed building and commented that in no other country, graduates from Russia have achieved such a feat.

The second visitor was one of our own, Mr. Kumar Athulathmudaly and his wife from Sydney, Australia. Having a brief and a busy stay in SL, Kumar was unable to join us for the dinner on 24th and could visit “Mahagedara’ only on Monday, 26th evening.

The President and a few of the EXCO members, who were free that evening, met him at the ASLGSC.

Kumar Athulathmudali is one of our members in Down under who vigorously campaigned for contributions for our building project successfully. He was also very pleased to see the present state of our building and congratulated the EXCO, assuring his continued support for any other future project we undertake.
